3 Step DIY Family Name Stencil Pillow

A Step-by-Step Tutorial

I really love home decor pieces that feature a family's last name or the names of each child, parent and pet. I wanted to try out some new fabric markers I got, so I had the idea to stencil the names on a pillow cover. Here are the supplies and steps to make your own pillow:

FOR THIS PROJECT YOU WILL NEED:

Fabric paint marker

Pillow insert or stuffing

STEP 1: TRACE STENCILS

You'll begin by deciding how you want your names laid out. Do you want them off center or centered? I wanted mine to be all starting on the left side, so I began with the first letter of the last name I was using (Sylvester, one of our cats). I placed the letter stencil and traced the letter using the fabric marker...NOT the paint marker. The marker allows you to trace the letter easier than using the fabric marker, and there is not as much risk of bleeding.

From here, you'll work your way up with the first letter of each row. Then, start on the second letter and work your way up again. I used the edge of the stencil as the guide to know how to space each one out.

STEP 2: CONTINUE TRACING LETTERS

Continue tracing the letters until you have all of the names completed. This step is a bit time consuming as you need to make sure the letters are lined up evenly.

STEP 3: FILL IN LETTERS

Now, color in each letter with the fabric paint marker. This step is also a bit time consuming, but you'll need to be cautious not to go out of the lines.

Once I gathered my supplies, this project took about an hour to complete. Not too bad, right? With different font, these pillows could look really different! Going to try this one out yourself? I'd love to hear how these projects go for you!
