Home Makeover Part 5: Upstairs Renovation

Before & After

In the next phase of our renovation, we'll take a look at our upstairs level, including our girls' bedrooms, a bathroom and the laundry room. I'll feature the master bedroom and bathroom in a separate post.

When we first moved in, we were basically living on the main level. We had our bed in the living room and clothes were scattered in boxes. Needless to say, renovating the upstairs and bedrooms was number one on the list. Once we finished the upstairs, we were able to move into our bedrooms and take on the rest of the house.

So, let's take a look at what we did upstairs...

Originally, when you first walked up the stairs, you had to immediately turn left, then right to go down the hallway. There were four bedrooms and two bathrooms crammed up there, so we completely gutted everything...walls, ceilings, flooring, etc.

We were able to raise the ceilings quite a bit. We also changed the layout so now when you walk up the stairs, you go straight down a hallway. On the left there is a bedroom, then a bathroom, then a second bedroom. To the left is the master suite then the laundry room. Having the laundry room on the same level as our bedrooms was imperative.

The bathroom is in between our girl's bedrooms, and although we all use it now, as they get older it will become "their bathroom".

The new laundry room sits at the end of the hallway and a bit to the left. Vivian's bedroom sits on the other side of the right wall, and our master bedroom is on the other side of the left wall.

Take a look at the rest of the upstairs. The first photo is the new hallway...

What do you think of the upstairs portion of the remodel? Are you currently renovating a room or house? I'd love to hear how it goes! Stay tuned for the next post featuring the master suite!
