How to Create a Feather Mirror for Your Home in 4 Easy Steps

Step by Step Instructions

I don't know about you, but I love feathers! I love them on clothes, handbags, pillows, and this unique mirror I'm going to show you how to make. This project is super simple, and can be completed in about 20 minutes!

For this project you will need:

Round mirror

Feather trim

Hot glue gun & glue

Cardboard or mat board

Twine

Scissors

Sharpie marker

Here are the steps to create your own Feather Mirror:

STEP 1: CUT CARDBOARD

To begin, place the mirror on your cardboard and trace it with a Sharpie. Then cut out the circle and set it to the side for now.

STEP 2: GLUE FEATHERS

Turn the mirror face down on a smooth surface (be sure there is nothing under the mirror so it doesn't get scratched). Lay out the ribbon trim around the mirror and cut any extra. Begin gluing the trim. The goal is to make sure the ribbon trim that holds the feathers together does not show from the front...so make sure to glue the feathers in a bit from the edge. Continue around the entire mirror.

STEP 3: ATTACH TWINE

Next you'll attach a strand of twine to each side of the mirror. This will serve as the hanger for the mirror. Depending on the size of the mirror you choose, cut a strand a few inches longer than the diameter. I used a 10" mirror, so I cut a 16" strand of twine.

From here, use your hot glue gun to attach the strand to each side of the back of the mirror, as shown below.

STEP 4: ATTACH CARDBOARD

Finally, attach the cardboard circle you cut out earlier. I applied hot glue to the back of the mirror, then lined up the cardboard and pressed down. You'll have to work quickly so the glue doesn't dry before you get the cardboard in place.

And that's all it takes! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial...pretty simple, right? What do you think of this project? Are you planning on making one of your own? I'd love to hear your thoughts on how the project goes for you!
